DISCO ET FAIS DO DO

by Bruce Daigrepont
(Bayou Pon Pon, ASCAP)
from Stir up the Roux on Rounder Records (#6016)

Such things as the Cajun French language, Mardi Gras and Fais Do Do dances are all dear to me. Often one does not appreciate something until it is gone. Therefore, this song is dedicated to all the Cajuns who may be taking their culture for granted, because it could someday be lost. -- Bruce Diagrepont

DISCO ET FAIS DO DO

DISCO AND FAIS DO DO

About five years ago, I couldn't wait
To leave beautiful Louisiana
Leave my family, leave my town,
Get out of beautiful Louisiana
I didn't like the accordion, I didn't like the violin,
I didn't want to speak French
Now I am in California,
I have changed my mind.

I say Hey -- Yah -- Yahy -- I miss the Cajun language
It's all English here among the Americians,
I missed the Mardi Gras, I don't eat gumbo
I go to the Disco, but I miss the Fais-Do-Do!

I used to change the station
When I heard a Cajun song
Me, I wanted to hear the same music
Same as the Americans
Now I am lonesome for the old Cajuns
It's often I play their records
And me, I would give two hundred dollars
For a pound of crawfish.

I say Hey -- Yah -- Yahy -- I miss the Cajun language
It's all English here among the Americians,
I missed the Mardi Gras, I don't eat gumbo
I go to the Disco, but I miss the Fais-Do-Do!
