NONC WILLIE

by Bruce Daigrepont
(Bayou Pon Pon, Rounder Music, ASCAP)
from Petit Cadeau on Rounder Records (#6060)

Bruce dedicated this song to his great uncle Willie Daigrepont and to his grandfather Albert Daigrepont, Jr.  "The bourré games in Uncle Willie's country store will always be a special memory of mine."  (Webmaster's Note:  Bourré is a Cajun card game that is similar to hearts, but the rules are flexible, to say the least.)

Nonc Willie

Allons aller
Allons aller

Allons aller...

Allons aller...

Uncle Willie

Let's go
Let's go
Let's go to Uncle Willie's
Play bourré
Play bourré
Play bourré at Uncle Willie's
We will all have some fun at Uncle Willie's

Uncle Willie was the brother
He was the brother of my grandfather
He had a store
Where all the people spoke Cajun
Where the men would gather
Gather to play bourré
Play bourré and drink beer
In the back room

Let's go...

I remember, dear, so well
The card games at Uncle Willie's
And how much I loved
I loved to watch them
And when the winner, he won
Often he would give me
He'd give me a little bit of money
For me to buy some candy

Let's go...
