STIR UP THE ROUX
By Bruce Daigrepont
(Bayou Pon Pon, BMI)
from Stir up the Roux on Rounder Records (#6016)
When cooking gumbo you must first prepare a roux.
The combination of a warm fireplace, a
loved one, and a gumbo is my favorite homecoming after a tour.
Hot boudin, baby, cold couch-couche,
Rice and gravy and patate douce,
Etoufee, let's play bourre,
Get ready, Mama, 'cause I'm coming your way.
You'd better stir up the roux, stir up the roux,
Don't let it burn-a burn-a burn-a sweet Mama.
'Cause I'm a two- two- two- two- step- ste- stepping your way, Chere.
You'd better stir up the roux, stir up the roux,
Don't let it burn-a burn-a burn-a sweet Mama
'Cause the Cajun country boy's gonna come your way.
Light up the fireplace, pull out my rocking chair,
Get ready, Mama, 'cause I'll soon be there.
Rosin up my bow, heat up the gumbo,
Look out, Mama, I'm at your front door.
Hot boudin, baby, cold couch-couche,

Etoufee, let's play bourre,
Get ready, Mama, 'cause I'm coming your way.
You'd better stir up the roux, stir up the roux,
Don't let it burn-a burn-a burn-a sweet Mama.
'Cause I'm a two- two- two- two- step- ste- stepping your way, Chere.
